Cook's "A Fortress in Shadow" is an omnibus containing the two prequels to the "Dread Empire" main trilogy. As it's an omnibus, I'm rating it at the average of the two component books (an overall Pretty Good 4 stars out of 5 (actually out of 5))/5(27).

A Fortress in Shadow is a collection of the two prequal novels in the Dread Empire series. It includes "The Fire in His Hands" and "With Mercy Toward None".

I have not read the other books in the series yet so I do not know how they tie in but what is covered in this book seems to be some very key ground work for the later stories/5. All that conflict can wear a guy out.

Thank goodness for fantasy novels, comic books, late-night games of Dungeons & Dragons, and lots of angst-fueled writing. Myke is the author of Javelin Rain and Gemini Cell, prequels to his Shadow Ops novels, which include Breach Zone, Fortress Frontier, and Control Point/5(92).

Psalm 91 1  Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. The spine-chilling novel, Fortress composed by Gabrielle Lord portrays suspense as it becomes extremely intense and reasonably scary.

This conceives Fortress to contain a range of ingredients in a captivating thriller. Similarly, who could resist the suspenseful plot, believable characters and the probing moral questions it asks?/5. Faery in Shadow is a sequel to Cherryh's novella " The Brothers ", which was first published in her collection of short fiction, Visible Light, and is based in part on Celtic Mythology, featuring such creatures as the fay race of the Sídhe, including : C.

Cherryh. As far as we know your Fortresses only get attacked during Shadow Wars at the end of the Story/Campaign and then you CAN lose them yes. Sadly these Shadow War are not endless. (it was a HUGE price those damn walls for each fortress, also losing them would drive to madness) #8.
